Family Tents

The family tent

Family tents come in all shapes and sizes, just as there are families in all shape and sizes. Not everyone needs the same amount of living space: some people find  the "compact" size cozy, others find this claustrophobic. Some families take a lot of things with them on vacation and other families "travel light". Some families want to visit several campsites during a holiday, others choose one campsite for the entire holiday. There are people with a fixed camping spot for the entire season. All these factors determine how big your tent should be and what kind of tent is most suitable. The sizes of the family tents vary from 3 persons to 8 persons tents. In addition, there are "club tents" for 10 persons. All sizes and models are available in different materials. Polyester, cotton, technical cotton, etc. Do you want to know everything about the different tent materials? Read our information page about tent materials.

Inflatable family tents

The inflatable tents are a modern convenience! The big advantage of inflatable tents is, of course, that you can quickly set them up and take them down, even the larger models. Perfect for people who want to often change campsites. Also, when you finally arrive at the campsite after a long journey with the children, these tents set up quickly. This means one person can set up the tent while the other parent can prepare dinner with the children.

In our range of tents you will find inflatable tents for up to 8 persons, these are really huge accommodations. Are there no disadvantages at all to the inflatable tents? "Every advantage has its disadvantage" and that also applies here. The tents are usually made in one piece (for example, the groundsheet is attached to the flysheet), which means that the packing size is relatively large. Furthermore, "inflatable" sounds like "air" and implies lightweight, but unfortunately that is not true: a sturdy construction of and around the tubes requires a lot of material. The pressure in the tubes also varies depending on the outside temperature and air pressure (good weather, bad weather) and it may therefore be wise at times to let some air out of the tubes or to add some pressure. Inflatable tents are therefore not suitable to leave in a permanent place for an entire season. But all these things are unimportant to most people when they consider the enormous ease of use. In this video, two of our colleagues show you how to set up and pack up a large family tent in a heartbeat.

Lightweight family tents

In contrast to inflatable tents, the lightweight tent models are made of a smaller packing volume and have as little weight as possible . Usually, these tents are tunnel models or tipis (tents with a pyramid shape). The tunnel models have multiple poles. Usually the poles are straight and must then be put through a curved sleeve. Especially with  larger models it is useful to do this with two persons. The price of the tent determines which material the poles are made of. With cheaper model tents the poles are made of plastic, usually a glass fiber material. With the more expensive models, the poles are made of aluminum. There are different qualities of aluminum, often depending on the diameter. The plastic poles can split if you handle them carelessly or if the tent is tackled by an aggressive gust of wind. Plastic sounds lightweight, but it isn't: aluminum poles are stronger and lighter in weight. However, there are also variants in which the aluminum poles are preformed (and therefore curved): curved poles take up more space during transport and these poles are also considerably thicker (20 mm or more) and heavier. Tipis have very few poles: the original tipis have only one! This makes them very lightweight, but you must use a lot of pegs to set them up. The disadvantage of Tipis is that you get water in your tent quickly when you get in or out of the tent during a rain shower. That is why a few large models have a vestibule. Partly depending on the size, the groundsheet is delivered separately with some models and must therefore be zipped in during the set-up.

Lightweight family tents are ideal for families who have less need for storage space during the trip. Lightweight models are also cheaper than inflatable tents and comfort family tents. A price range from price conscious to more expensive high quality tents, but also light weight and a compact pack size characterise this category.

Comfort family tents

The comfort family tents are, literally and figuratively speaking, the big boys in our range. With these tents, no concessions are made on the quality of the material, the longevity and the comfort. The tent fabric is made of a heavy quality (ripstop) cotton, the height-adjustable poles are strong and have a large diameter. The groundsheet is made of the virtually indestructible bisonyl. If you want to be sure your tent can stand all (weather) conditions, you will find it in this model. These are the tents that you can leave standing throughout the whole season. In our range we have, among other things, the Falco tents that you can set up without guy ropes and that are equipped with the robust coated Ten Cate All Season outer fabric. And what about the elegant Prestige models from Bardani with a tent fabric made of breathable ripstop cotton with many ventilation options?

It is clear that these tents are not the lightweight models, that the pack size is large and the price is "in the top segment". But in return, you have a tent that lasts a very long time and is perfected to the smallest detail. Comfort and quality come first!
